YEM Scotland is led by a passionate, youth-driven team committed to building a more inclusive, democratic, and European future. We're proudly progressive, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and welcome people from all backgrounds. Whether organising events, shaping campaigns, or representing Scotland across Europe, we work together to ensure young voices are heard — and empowered.
Hi! I’m Amelia, I'm 22, disabled, neurodivergent, and an LGBT+ activist based in Forth Valley, Scotland.
As Chairwoman of Young European Movement Scotland, I represent a generation of young Scots who believe passionately that Scotland belongs at the heart of Europe.
For me, this role is about more than just politics, it's about identity, belonging, and opportunity. I grew up feeling deeply connected to our European neighbours, and that connection only deepened through international exchanges and solidarity with friends across the EU. Like many young people, I didn’t vote to leave, and I refuse to give up on our European future.
At YEM Scotland, I work alongside a brilliant team of volunteers to give young people across Scotland a platform to campaign for closer EU ties, amplify pro-European voices, and fight for our democratic rights. Whether that’s attending the European Youth Event in Strasbourg, advocating for EU citizens in Scotland, or taking part in climate discussions with our European peers, we are making sure Scotland stays engaged, informed, and hopeful.
I’m a strong supporter of Scottish independence and of Scotland’s democratic right to choose its own path. I believe Scotland should be an independent country and rejoin the EU as an equal partner. Through YEM Scotland, I’m working to help make that vision a reality, by building our connection to the European Union, by empowering underrepresented young people, strengthening Scotland’s direct EU links, and ensuring our voice is heard within the wider YEM UK movement and across JEF Europe. I’m Motaz, originally from Yemen and currently based in Scotland. I’m a national award-winning human rights campaigner and independent researcher, with a focus on refugee and migration rights, as well as young people’s rights. Over the past few years, I’ve collaborated with more than 20 national organisations from Amnesty International to the Home Office and spoken at over 60 national and international events on human rights, inclusion and youth leadership. I’m excited to join YEM as Head of Diversity & Inclusion and look forward to helping shape a more inclusive, representative and impactful youth movement across Europe.
